The school where I am working has asked me to introduce the subject of English Literature to 3rd year senior school students and to move on to working on some Shakespeare or Dickens. Bearing in mind that they are just about pre-intermediate level I have no idea where to start. I studied some English Lit back at school but don't feel that qualifies me to teach it. Can anyone provide any links or help regarding the basics of literature i.e. what are the genres, styles, and ideas that I can use to get the students talking?
Thanks

Hello,
I suggest you try to get hold of some graded readers to start with. Your students will find the real text too difficult at pre-intermediate level. Many publishers also provide guides for teachers to accompany the readers.
You can also look at the following, they are all posts that I have replied to on similar topics.
