What do you call monsters decorating the top of castles?

One of my students have asked me the name of those monsters we see on the top of a haunted castle, like in batman movies. they are made of ciment I guess and most of them have got wings and terrifying faces. If a goos soul can give a hand I appreciate!!

I think your student is referring to "gargoyles"; also seen at the top of churches.
