What's the difference between TEFL & CELTA?

Dear All,

I would like to know what is the difference between TEFL and CELTA or other certifications available? Im planning to certify as a Teacher of English for Foreign Learners (particularly Young Learners) hence my interest. Could someone who knows also suggest a highly accredited and good course + certifying body in Europe? Not necessarily in the UK... as that might be one of the most expensive options.
Many many thanks !

Your question cannot be answered directly. It's like saying "What's the difference between an apple and a Granny Smith?"

A CELTA IS a TEFL, so it's difficult to say what the difference is. What one can say with some ease is that the CELTA is the Rolls-Royce of TEFLs. It is recognized internationally as the gold standard, to mix my metaphors.

Please see: http://www.tefl.net/tefl-courses/faq-te ... cation.htm

Hope this helps.
