CELTA OR CELTYL

Unread postby richyrich » Fri Jun 17, 2005 10:41 pm

I am trying to decide whether to do a standard CELTA course or the CELTYL in order to specialise in teaching youngsters.

I plan to teach in Spain. I believe it is compulsory for children to learn English there so figured it would be a good area for me to specialise in.

However:

a) I don't want to limit my teaching possibilities (could I not teach adults at all by doing a CELTYL?)

b) Would I require other qualifications in Spain to teach children in schools as well as CETYL?

Any advice anyone can give would be most appreciated.

CELTA or CELTYL

rich,

If you want to teach kids in a state school, you'd need more than just a cert in YL.

If you want to teach in a private language school, just a cert in TEFL shouldbe enough. in my opinion, you shouldn't limit yourself by focusing on YLs

Malcolm

Thanks for this advice. I was struggling to find language schools in Spain who teach CERTYL's as well. With your advice, I will undertake a CELTA which are also a lot easier to come by too. Many thanks for your help.
