Re: How scary is it?

People are people. After 15 years abroad I find Canadians (my fellow countrymen) to be the scariest people of all. :D

Re: Student's blog. Correction

I agree with Alex. If what they are saying is comprehensible, then they are winning - they are successfully communicating with the world, in English. The excellent thing about blogs is that the communication can be two-way, and most people really like to have what they've written get responses. I wo...

Re: would this tefl qualification be any good at all?

I don't think you provide enough background / context for others to judge the worth of this course for you.

If you are interested in gaining real world classroom teaching experience, then yes, the course you describe here will be completely worthless.

Re: Tefl-celta - which course to take plus other advice

Hey MickyMack, First of all congratulations on taking the plunge. I got out much earlier in life than you but it is never too late to leave the rat race behind... :D I agree with others that online stuff is not going to give you the practical classroom tools and experience you'd get from an intensiv...

Re: Advice needed

I know this is a vague answer but to be honest "it depends". A lot will depend on what exactly your visa / immigration status is. If you are intending to work under the table, those types of schools probably won't care much what you specific qualifications are. If you want to work in a reputable pri...

A Short Guide to Miming Games

A Short Guide to Miming Games Comments: Games which involve students miming - that is to say, using their bodies to convey the meaning of an action or an expression which the others have to guess - are extremely popular and with good reason. They are suitable for all levels since they don't always ...

Re: where to go and how?

Dear mariam2, I'd like to suggest something a little different. You say you'd like to go somewhere to make money for traveling, but if it were me I would consider my work location a form of travel itself. So why go to, for example, Korea - a place that might not be particularly appealing culturally,...

Re: Advice on how to get a job- not a "native" English speaker

I am trying to understand your problem. Are potential employers questioning whether you are a native English speaker? Do you have a funky accent when doing phone interviews? Or is your name distinctly African sounding? Do you make sure you indicate in your CV that English is your native language, th...

Re: Cheers,

If you're confident enough don't bother getting a TEFL. Just read some books on teaching English, choose your destination, book your flight, and get out into the world and teach . Yeah, I suppose this is one way of going about it. How would you like to sign up and pay good money for a language cour...

Re: I am interested in getting TEFL certification abroad

Have you considered the SIT TESOL Certificate? In Thailand there are a number of options from these guys: http://www.auathailand.org/sit/ (disclaimer: I don't personally know these people, but they are offering the same course my Institute does) This course is similar to the CELTA - externally asses...

Re: Help unsure what course to do

I would advise against starting in the UK. ESL teaching is not a particularly prestigious job there, the competition is huge... I just can't see any upside. On the other hand, as a native speaker teacher in foreign lands you are the respected foreign expert, you can learn a new language and get imme...
