Re: Teaching in France as a non-native English speaker

Hi Flower, I lived in Aix before moving to Spain for 18 months. It's a beautiful part of France (really stunning) however I never felt like I could live in France for my whole life due to the people there. I don't like the typical French character. I do howver now find myself in Ecuador teaching Eng...

Re: Spain - Level 5 Dip Tesol

In 7 years teaching to Spanish clients, I haven't been asked one time for an English teaching qualification... NOT ONCE... whilst doing the qualification that you indicated could help, it is absolutely not necessary even in today's market in Spain. I would say spend the time and money marketing your...

Re: Age discrimination in Spain

Hey this is a very interesting question. I have a British friend here in Ecuador. I think he is 65 and has had plenty of work. I'd even employ him. Before coming here I was in Spain for 5 years teaching. I do remember at least a couple of colleagues who had plenty of work around your age. Spain is l...

Re: it can be because

Hi GB Shaw, I'm a native English teacher online on skype and I agree that it would be 'it could be because'. It sounds better and I believe as you rightly indicate the reason is because we are talking about a conditional or dependent possibility when utlising this structure. I hope that makes sense....

Re: What´s the demand for business like in Spain at the Mome

With the right marketing campaign you can absolutely do this... you'd need possibly a good website and maybe go round big businesses and offer your services. If you visited 5 big businesses per day for a month with the right preparation, I'm sure there'd be demand and you'd do very well. It just com...

Re: Business English. Has anyone...

Hey there, I have taught English for 7 years to Spaniards... a lot of them want business English but I have never done a Business English course for this. I just use my prior Business knowledge and business English books like in company and that does the job more than fine. All the best

Re: More interesting ways to teach grammar?

Hi I make a list of common errors students (I count how many for each category) make and get them to focus on that common error according to how many times they are making that particular common error. This could be for example treating people as singular or confusion between other and another. I ho...

Hey Lucy, I have been freelance all my career... for about 7 years now... what about making a website to support your publicity indicating how you are different for the rest? I also got students by putting ads up on notice boards around the city in Spain I used to live in. Like craigslist, I also go...

Re: Which European country for an American beginner teacher?

Hi Dphilibin I'm not sure if being a non-European would limit your opportunities or not. I suspect not. You can always spend 3 months in Europe looking for work on the ground. That may be a better bet as it indicates that you are committed and will give yourself a subconcious boost making you go tha...

Re: How do I find new business English clients?

Love that post Janine... some great tips in there. In response to the original post, I have hardly ever needed to do (touch wood) it but I have always thought that if I needed more work from businesses, I would simply put a suit on and personally visit companies... spend 2 or 3 days doing that. If I...

Re: Looking for a Tefl job but no degree

Hi Love to, We recruit online teachers in our online teaching English school and we need experience and knowledge of Spanish: nothing else apart from being a good person etc. Also, my friend has an academy in Pamplona and his requirements don't include a degree. Experience is more important for him....

I taught in Pamplona for 5 years and now work online from Ecuador. I never worked as a salaried worker and as a freelance, I have never once been requested a teaching qualification. In Pamplona there will be schools seeking full-time teachers and pay tends to be better than other parts of Spain howe...

Hi! I started i-to-i 7 years ago but didn't finish it. I can't remember why. I have taught English for 8 years: I have never been asked for a formal English teaching qualification. It may be because I have always been freelance. I started being freelance and had some jobs with academies in Spain. Th...

Re: 30 minute class with Spanish adults - low level

Hi James, I am teaching a very low level group at the moment and have found that the students are very 'involved' if I do simple conversations. FOr example, last class I did family and just started the conversation with 'do you have any siblings'? Then I asked about the age, profession, where the pe...

Re: New Volunteer Teacher in Madagascar seeks ideas

Hi Brian,

Above all, I think it is critical you be yourself and not try to be someone you aren't.

Also, it's important to make the classes fun and if possible interesting. I appreciate this is more complicated in groups usually than one on one.

All the best. Mark

Yelena,

It's '80 year old grandmother' ;)

First you need to be yourself. Don't try to be another person.

bbclearningenglish.com has a wealth of quality material.

You could try breakingnewsenglish.com also but it depends on the level of the student.
