Executive Summary

I have worked in St Andrews University summer school teaching a diverse mix of nationalities and ability levels during intensive 8-week seasons. I am dedicated and passionate about teaching, getting a genuine sense of achievement from seeing students progress and develop in their studies.

Employment History

Aug 2011 - April 2014 Oliver’s English School, Tainan City

This position gave me the opportunity to expand my skills-base by taking on extra responsibilities in an administrative capacity. As Senior Teacher, my role involved planning curriculum, extra-curricular activities, special events, day-to-day planning for the school and creating promotional materials on top of a full-time teaching schedule. The curriculum was based around a US reading curriculum with supplementary materials and testing sourced from elsewhere. I was given the freedom to tailor my lessons and materials to the specific learning needs of my students, and enjoyed seeing the students progression as a consequence.

July 2012 - September 2012 St. Andrews University, St. Andrews

As a staff teacher at St. Andrews University during the summer of 2012, I taught students from Spain, Poland, Italy, and China at ages ranging from 12 to adults. This intensive course ran 8 weeks, with five days a week in class with the students ranging from beginners to advanced levels. This experience exposed me to the varied challenges and idiosyncrasies associated with learners of English from different cultures. It was valuable to be able to adapt my teaching methods to counter these challenges and help them learn in more effective ways.

Jan 2008 - July 2011 Jumpstart, Tainan City

I worked for 3 and half years at Jumpstart School in Tainan where I was home-room teacher for a K3/4 Kindergarten, where I was responsible for teaching the entire curriculum. This covered English, music, science, art, maths and PE.The school follows the Scott-Foresman (USA origin) curriculum and books combined with the Cambridge testing. During this time I also taught evening ESL classes up to High School level which also followed Scott-Foresman curriculum.

The school used their own in-house curriculum, textbooks and We mainly used Shane’s own curriculum and additional materials such as Mr.Bugs and other readers and grammar books.
