I’m a passionate, driven and conscientious individual that’s able to maintain a good sense of humour whilst working under pressure. I consider myself extremely fortunate to be able to do the job that I love. To be able to pass on my knowledge and see my students grow as individuals, knowing that I have helped to give them the best start in life is what keeps me going. I love to travel and experience new cultures and to combine this with teaching is a major bonus. In the UK I volunteered for The Round Table Children’s Wish charity, where wishes were granted for children with life threatening illnesses and hope to become involved in similar projects in Asia if possible.

2001 – 2011

Summerbee Secondary School – GCSE English Language Teacher and Year Head.

My responsibilities included overseeing the 5 year GCSE English Language course from start to finish, leading class activities and setting coursework. Class sizes were approximately 30 with students ranging in age from 11 to 16. Summerbee had struggled in the past to achieve acceptable GSCE pass rates of A to C. My target was make a marked improvement in these figures which I successfully did and this led to my promotion to Head of Year where my role was to encompass not just teaching of the students but also the teachers. After a fulfilling 10 year career I achieved the aim of markedly improving standards and decided to take my teaching career in a new direction, moving to the teaching of English as a foreign language.

2011 – to date

International English School – Vietnam

I was employed by IES on a 2 year contract teaching a range of ages, abilities and class sizes. As opposed to my previous UK teaching roll, the focus was now more on the spoken word and conversation structuring than the written language and grammar. This very much appealed to me, as lessons became far more interactive and fun for me and the children. It enabled me to have more freedom in the structuring of lessons, which really suited my style of teaching. My contract has now come to an end and so I have moved to Thailand in the hope of continuing my career here but will be willing to consider alternative counties depending on the opportunity available.
