Job Description:
We are currently seeking native-speaker teachers of English and a senior teacher who would be keen to assist us in expanding learning opportunities for the ever-increasing number of students in our learning centre, as well as enjoy integrating in a tropical environment, a rich and varied culture and a welcoming friendly community in Sri Lanka.

Teachers would be required to provide a variety of English language instruction to a range of age groups, which includes General English (elementary, pre-intermediate, intermediate and upper intermediate) for school children, teenagers and adults. Teachers are also required to teach English for Academic Purposes and/or IELTS and/or English for Special Purposes and/or Activity-based English for Young Children.

The role of responsibility for Senior Teachers, in addition to the above, would include supporting less experienced teachers, undertaking the development and implementation of courses, assisting the Director in various administrative duties and generally promoting the centre.

Qualifications, Skills & Qualities:
1. First Degree level of study or extensive practical teaching experience.
2. CELTA OR TEFL/ TESOL qualification with minimum two years overseas English teaching experience.
3. Ability to teach General English at all levels to children and/or adults.
4. Abilities in teaching EAP, IELTS and/or ESP for Business, Legal, Admin, Sport etc an advantage.
4. Motivated by challenges and new experiences.

Compensation:
Return flights, all visa costs and shared accommodation with separate bedroom are provided by Strathfield. You will be met at the airport and can depend on a British in-country support person. We require a one year commitment. You are expected to work a 40-hour week and may enjoy 3 weeks holiday per year. A local salary of SLR 40,000 - SLR 50,000 per month (depending on level of responsibility) allows you to live modestly and be able to visit the idyllic and cultural spots around the island in your free time.

ABOUT US
Strathfield Centre of Learning in Sri Lanka is a newly established and unique educational facility, exclusively with foreign teachers, meeting the high demand for English classes and basic computer training in the locality of the western coastal town of Panadura.

We are a small learning centre, currently with a staff of 5 who are setting up, managing and conducting instruction. We take pride in our flexible and friendly approach and an affordable range of courses for a variety of ages and types of learners. Our provision extends from very young learners and school children to teenagers and adults, including mothers and working ladies; senior citizens; under graduates; expatriate communities; corporate groups; and we will even take our English instruction to out-station venues if there is a sizeable class of learners.

In addition to four levels of General English, we also offer English for Academic Purposes, English for Specific Purposes (i,e, business, admin, legal, sport, tourism, teachers and job seeking), IELTS preparation and Spoken English for Young Kids. Furthermore we plan to offer courses in basic computing and our computer lab will be open for enrolled students to complete ‘teacher-set’ homework, check e-mail and browse the internet.
