Tips for Brits in Tokyo Part two
Don’t do this!
Very bizarre story, which I only spotted the small paragraph on when rereading yesterday’s International Herald Tribune (sometimes it’s a good thing when the station kiosk only has the Japan Times and so you decide not to buy anything…). And the only story I could find on Google was from some Arabic newspaper. Curiouser and curiouser! Not sure why murdered foreigner is big news in Japan and foreigner murders is not.
Vaguely connected, one of the strangest conversations I have ever heard of (and therefore not to be taken as typical in any way) was when my girlfriend overheard two male colleagues discussing who was better looking, the (then) recently murdered British Nova teacher or the until then most famous murdered British female, the Roppongi hostess Lucie Blackman. Very very odd indeed.
Back to less distasteful topics tomorrow, I promise.
