Stranded Australians

The Australian press continue to give more coverage to the collapsing Nova story than even newspapers in Japan. I confidently predict that the next publication to cover the story will be the London Evening Standard, worried that the oversupply of Aussies and Kiwis working in London bars will become intolerable once more unskilled younguns from Down Under come flooding out of Japan with nowhere else to go.

I hope it gets sorted out one way or another soon, because, as you can see above, I have totally run out of puns on the word “nova”. Metropolis magazine’s Final Say column was telling me (I’m sure it was aimed specifically at me) not to laugh and gloat about the impending doom of Novadom, but as there isn’t anything practical I can do except pass information on like this, a chuckle seems the only healthy reaction. Speaking seriously for a minute, I really hope they don’t collapse and leave students, teachers, teachers’ families and other creditors out of pocket. In the unlikely event they can collapse without inconveniencing anyone, the world might be a better place without a chain of schools run by Monkeybridge and his yakuza chums.*

* I have no evidence at all that Nova is connected to the yakuza, but what are blogs for if not to pass on this kind of gossip for people like me who don’t have a water cooler to gather round and get it from?
