New TEFL articles and reviews August 2009
Not many TEFL.net articles/ teaching ideas this month due to (a) the humidity (b) the baby (c) getting busy on the reviews (see below). Here are the ones I did manage:
How to make English spelling interesting (or even fun)
Using Learn English Kids Just for Fun games in class
Picture dictionary games and activities
Lots of drawing in the last one, and will be writing a whole series of article on drawing games for MET starting in the next edition, so look out for that (to make up for the lack of this)
The bottom article came about due to me coming up with a new way of examining a book even more closely in order to write a review and getting a “free” article out of it at the same time. In this case the review was:
Oxford Picture Dictionary Second Edition
Got so used to taking credit for other people’s work (with everyone thinking TEFL.net’s Twitter page or even the whole site is mine) that I thought I’d try and get a little reflected glory for the work of my volunteer book reviewers this month:
New Penguin Readers (review by Dave Allen)
Topic Talk Issues 2nd Edition (Jennie Roloff)
English for Management Studies (Kathryn Sagert)
Aviation English (Lara Promnitz-Hayashi)
IELTS Target 4.5 (Clare Welch)
New Scholastic Readers (Dave Allen again)
Great haul that, and think it compares very well with TEFL magazines and journals. Discussion on whether they are still worth the cash coming soon, and in the meantime if you want to get involved in making them obsolete:
