Filtering out the TEFL riff-raff
Was just looking at the IATEFL jobseekers page (via the great BESIG yahoo group). There are no jobs on there yet, but advertising with IATEFL sounds like a great way of avoiding the kind who still hang around at Tosser Dave’s ESL Cafe, doesn’t it?
Any other great ways of avoiding applications from the waster side of our “profession”?

Likewise with the English Australia website in Oz Alex..

(I am reliably told that EF Sydney is not as ass-backwards as the rest of the chain before someone notices and calls me on it!)

Hi Alex,
Do you mean that the IATEFL Jobs Market is a good way of filtering out riff-raff employers, or a good way for employers to filter out “waster” teachers?
Thanks
Eric

I take it back. Job number six is an ad by EF China (who are at least as ass-backwards as the rest of the chain) full of odd grammar mistakes:

are good.
eslcafe.com still has a couple good jobs.

Interesting comments on here. How exactly do you filter out ‘waster’ teachers via this jobs site or? How do you identify ‘waster’ teachers from ‘good’ teachers before the interview stage, for example?

Like it says here, some sites are likely to attract better teachers than others. The other things would be:
- Grade B or above on CELTA or at least one year of experience
- Not their first job
- Lots of teacher development in their previous TEFL jobs
- Be a school that professional teachers would want to work for
