teach in China, look for a girl/boy friend and enjoy your life here

Yup, that is the title of a genuine job ad, also including classic lines like

“If you are an English native speaker without a bachelor’s degree and TEFL/ EFL/TESOL certificate, No problem! Never mind. You can learn TESOL course online or can be trained in our company for a week and you can grasp…how to make the students like you”

and

“It is very easy to teach English in China especially oral English, because most of Chinese middle-school students, university students and English major’s students could not speak English well.”

So, teaching English conversation to low level students with no confidence in their speaking is the easiest job in TEFL is it? You should quit your conversation classes in Spain (“Here’s an article, talk about it in pairs… Keep the noise down please… Right, that is the end of the class”) classes right away and get out to China!

“If you obtain a TESOL certificate from our company, you will be treated to visit the most beautiful and biggest temple in Northern China.”

Makes me imagine some secret Shaolin temple that you can only visit if you have a TESOL, at which the secret TESOL initiation rights take place.

“Free health clinic at school”

In the school?? “Excuse me, Mr School Manager. I seem to have caught an embarrassing infection. Could you recommend a clinic?” “No need for a clinic, Teacher Alex, just come into my office and whip your trousers off. I’ll have a look at it for free”

Surely no one can have been stupid enough to fall for that, right? Well, only 1800 people so far, it seems… You can join them here.

Poor old Dave Sperling will be kicking himself that he missed out on the fee for this one.

I’m surprised they didn’t include ‘SARS / Bird flu-free’ in the title.
