The TEFLtasticest attempts at humour 2008
You know one of those episodes of Malcolm in the Middle or The Simpsons where they splice together lots of old clips with a few new bits and a dubious storyline? Well, this isn’t like that
… because I couldn’t be bothered to think of any way of linking them together. Otherwise it’s basically the same, a few of my top ranking posts from last year with a sprinkling of things that made me laugh from elsewhere. Hope something here cushions the shock of being back at school:
1. One of the biggest EFL stirs of the year and the most embarrassing guffaws from me in an internet cafe came from this spoof story on All Fools’ Day: UN to ban “unnecessary” languages, from TEFL.net’s sister site for students. Unfortunately, most of the craziest comments seem to be from teachers. And see if you can spot the comment from (probably) Paul Lowe pretending to be me.
2. Possibly the only time a link to my stuff on Dave’s hasn’t come from me- 25 Ways to Get Away with Being a Crap English Teacher.
4. Slogans for crappy English schools- polished up, expanded, and including contributions from readers without any sharing the glory at all (sorry guys, but surely content theft is what the internet is for!)
5. The best of English Teacher X (the thing on teaching Asian students was doing the rounds at our school recently, a classic!)
6. Motivational messages for TEFL teachers- just what you need before going back, I reckon
7. TEFL bits and bobs from Uncyclopedia(although you’d maybe be better looking at the Uncyclopedia site and picking any pages yourself)
8. 25 ways to be the best TEFLer you can be
9. Six drinks for a TEFL New Year bash
And finally, one which wasn’t popular at all but is possibly my favourite of the ones I wrote
10. The complete TEFL teacher’s dream dictionary
If that hasn’t done it, might I suggest you become a regular at Notes From The TEFL Graveyard or An Englishman in Osaka. Vaguely connected to language and therefore TEFL, there’s Viz’s Profanisaurus. Or you might want to abandon TEFL completely and go for www.dilbert.com (check out the blog too) or The Onion.

Oh, I did enjoy reading me own stuff from Tefl Trade! I never realised they were that good. Nor did anybody else, unfortunately.
Anyway, I’m back on the satire and campaigning trail once again. Catch up with me on http://tefltradesman.blogspot.com
Cheers!

The issue of schools blacklkisting teachers is giving ma a laugh, especially when you consider some of the things being said about our noble peers:

Aye, and somebody has launched an anti-Laughing Coyote blog already.
http://laughingcoyoteschool.blogspot.com
I wonder who could be behind it?

Yeah, I wonder!
