Headstart Mini Review

Headstart (OUP)
Although there is now a New Headway Beginner book that outdoes this one easily in terms of illustrations, presentation and interesting topics, this is still the best book around if you want to do a short beginners’ course that concentrates strictly on the basics- with the aim of getting them up to level where they can join the Elementary class. The course is very easy to use and there is in fact no need to buy the teacher’s book as there is everything you need in the student’s book- including very clear instructions and pairwork activities at the back. The fact that it is very thin (a third of the size of New Headway beginner) seems to help in not putting new students off, and obviously makes it more affordable. Bilingual versions are available, but are not really necessary.
