Oxford Activity Books for Children

Although these children’s books have none of the colour, cute characters or songs that are the staple of books for these ages, they are still my favourite resource for primary age children that need to learn to read and write as much as to speak- for example, those that don’t use the Roman script in their own language. The lack of colour in the illustrations means that they are easily adaptable into board games, picture dictations etc, and of course that there is lots of possible colouring-in opportunities! The language points are clear and manageable, and the use of phonics and word shape to develop reading skills is very systematic. There is also a good variety of exercise types, and some games and game ideas included. Add a cassette of kids’ songs of your own, and maybe a puppet and you have the perfect Primary age class.
