PET Practice Tests (OUP) mini review

This book should be called something like PET Practice Tests Plus (but I think someone else already had that name). In addition to the tests, it has lots of exam tips and a key that actually explains why the answers are what they are. The exam tips (such as ‘do each question separately as they are not connected’, ‘underline the most important words’, ‘read once for a general idea’, ‘ask the examiner to explain again’, ‘read each sentence not each line’) are unobtrusively displayed on the actual exam paper throughout the five tests. Although all the tips are fairly obvious, they are written in nice easy language that a student studying alone should be able to understand. The key explains the answers by, for example, showing what part of the text the correct answer is in, going through all 4 options of multiple choice questions, grammar explanations, sample answers with marks for the writing, and presentations of useful vocabulary and structures for specific speaking tasks. Again, it is easy for a student studying alone to use. Recommended.
