New Headway PET Practice Tests mini review

Despite the name, this book of practice tests does not have any connection, in terms of syllabus etc, with the Headway books of this level (Pre and Int), the only exception being a brief explanation in the test teachers’ notes of how certain Headway tasks are similar to ones in the exam. If your students are taking the exam, however, these practice tests are as good as any other- they look like authentic ones, there are colour photos and the book is a convenient A4 size. It also has a brief overview of the exam and exam tips at the front. Unlike some recent exam books, it doesn’t have any tips written on the ‘papers’, and no additional information is given on why certain answers are right or wrong. It is therefore much more useful in class than as a self-study aid. The teachers’ notes do have teaching tips as well as the usual tapescripts and answer key, but it is probably possible to live without it if you are on a strict budget.
